Congratulations and Sundry

Kelly, one of my best friends since 3rd grade, became engaged to her boyfriend Steve on Easter. This past Saturday there was an engagement party at her parents' house- Margaritaville themed, complete with sand, palm trees, fully stocked tiki bar (with bartenders) and a DJ. It was a rockin' good time, and I think I might hire her family and rent out their back yard when my wedding comes along (theoretically, one day, not necessarily to PC, so no, I am not jumping the gun here). PC said that he would have paid a $30 cover to get into that party, so surely people wouldn't mind bringing a nice china place setting to get in.

Congrats to Kelly and Steve!

Although it stings to spend $400 on car maintenance, I have to say that when I got in my car today and the ride was all smooth, and the brakes worked right, and Gigi didn't scream as she rounded corners, the new tires were worth it.

I noticed a new muscle in my arm the other day while driving! It's right on my bicep, and it's firm even when I'm not trying to flex! AND! Today my trainer made me do these squat things with this big barbell over my shoulders, and when he originally made me do it, I had the hardest time, but this time he added weight!!!! Okay, so I'm not losing any weight because I still eat like crap* (and yes, I know muscle weighs more than fat and blah blah blah, but my clothes are not fitting any better, so scrap that argument), at least I'm getting stronger!

* Um, yeah... just pretend I never wrote this entry. (Therein lies the problem with blogging for accountability.)

Update, because I've been slacking.

You'd think that it being summer and all, I'd have way more time to post, but the fact of the matter is that I blog mostly to procrastinate, and when you don't have a job, there isn't much to put off. In fact, I am having a great summer.

I am moving in one week (skhdfkjbsoefhnslenc!!!!), and have so far bought (don't feel required to check all the links) bedding, livingroom seating, some kitchen essentials, silverware, glasses, cleaning supplies, and a mattress (bowm chicka bowm bowm). I have chosen my bedframe and will be telling the lovely man who sold me my mattress to add it to the order. Finding an entertainment unit for my nonexistant television that is both lovely AND functional AND cheap has proven to be nearly impossible. I'm not supposed to be moving in until Saturday, but I will be spending Friday waiting for my couch and chair to arrive, watching my nonexistant television whilst sitting on the furniture that's not there yet. If anyone would like to join me, I propose a pizza picnic on the floor and Cranium. Any takers?

This weekend I went down the shore* with Alex. I had an awesome time, and it was nice to spend time with him just hanging out, not relying on activities for our fun.

On Saturday I will be attending one of my best friend's engagement party. I am way excited and think it will be way fun, but um, am I supposed to get her something? I have heard that traditionally, an engagement party is for a couple to announce their engagement, and that no gifts are required nor should they be expected. However, there has been mention that if one is close to the bride or groom, a nice bottle of champagne or some kind of personal gift is appropriate. She is one of my best friends, I mean, I'm in the wedding and all, so I should get her something, right? But she doesn't drink, so champagne is out of the question, and my parents are getting her a gift certificate to a restaurant they like, so that's also out of the question, and I gave them a little housewarming gift and a homemade engagement card about a month ago. What do I do?

* I have heard rumor that the phrase "down the shore" is a strictly New Jersey saying. For those of you not skilled in Jerseyese, I went "to the beach."

Life is Ruff

On Tuesday Dog had a vet appointment. While she typically gets very excited to have a leash attached because that means she is going somewhere, she has not yet made the connection between Leash + Car ride = Vet = Vet sticking finger up her butt*. However, hugs all around, Dog is at a perfect weight, she is quite healthy, and it is refreshing to see such a sweet Cocker Spaniel when so many of them who enter the office are referred to as Land Sharks.

Wednesday, Dog was visited by her boyfriend The Groomer, who comes to our house with his doggie-salon on wheels, where he pampers her, gives her a cookie, and sends her back into the house where she runs around dragging her ears along the carpet and drinking bowlsfull of water.

This morning Dog was her usual self. She went outside a couple times, we played with her new toy, she was quite excited that Grandma is visiting. But when she was sitting on my lap, I noticed something weird. Dog's left ear feels about 4 times the thickness and weight that it should.

The vet gladly saw Dog right away, and it turns out that The Groomer must have nicked her ear while trimming, and because it is summer, the nick turned into a collossal staph infection overnight. Three days on steroids and a collar.

At first she didn't mind...

Now? She's not so happy about it.

Poor Dog.

* Dog's, not the vet's own.
** Dog has found that the most comfortable place to lay is usually atop a pile of dirty clothes and towels on my bed.

From the Vaults

I decided to clean my room tonight... or at least get started on it because lord knows it won't all get finished in one go-around. Under all the makeup and jewelry and electronics on my dresser, I found a folded up paper towel with quotes that I wrote down at the Mexican Pot Luck that Alison hosted about a month ago. Apparently I thought these conversations would be hilarious to read later, but only had the mind to write down two before drinking too much and getting too lazy for writing. Anyway, here they are. You probably won't think they are funny, but I have to throw this paper towel away.

Maggie: Is this soda Mexican?
Me: Mexican like my baby daddy.
Mag: Oh. How is he by the way?
Me: Bueno.

Alison: [After nearly coughing up a lung and not having anyone inquire about her well-being] No one even cares!!
Meg: Oh Al, you know if you were dying, we'd help you.
Al: Help me die?!?

Have you ever...

laid eyes on such handsome/cute/comfy/colorful/ksjndvowhrnfns!!! furniture*? Because I just bought it, my first Big Girl purchase.

Those are pictures I took in the showroom**, and let me assure you, they are even more awesome and less old-mannish in person. YAY!

* Hey, Whinger posted her furniture... I can too, dammit!
** Because I was afraid that by the time I got to the last of many stores I decided to check out, I'd forget which stores had the things I like. A genius move on my part.

For the 4th of July I went into Philly to see the fireworks over the Art Museum with P-C and a couple of friends of his. I had an awesome time, but that's all I'm going to say because Idon'twanttojinxit.
